Massive rains and some winter like weather over the past week has slowed the fishing a bit, but with lots of nutrients being put into the bays and some good water being put into the rivers, the fishing throughout Autumn should be awesome.

Port Phillip Bay
Mordialloc Pier has seen good numbers of pinkies being caught in the rough weather this week. Many of the fish are in the 25-30cm range. Staff member Eren fished the pier on Tuesday afternoon and had great success catching a bunch of pinkies. He said that by far the best bait was salted stripey fillet.
Customer Steve Church reports that good numbers of whiting are back on the chew in Beaumaris Bay with locations such as Brickies and the Parkdale Pinnacles producing the goods.
Along with the whiting Kingfish reports are still filtering through with scattered fish being taken on live baits of squid and garfish or small trolled lures. One angler who’s name we didn’t get caught a kingfish of about 2kg on a pippie while whiting fishing.
The Patterson River mouth is fishing well for small salmon after all of the rain we have had over the weekend. Good mate and customer Darren Jansen fished with his son Kai and daughter Katja on Sunday and had a ball trolling small metal slugs and hard bodies.
Squid are still on the chew with big numbers being taken between Olivers Hill and Mt Martha. Good mate and full time fisherman Glen fished on the squid off Olivers Hill and had a session with his mates Jason and Jason,. The boys said the numbers of squid were out of control with the boys catching their bag limit as well as releasing so many that they lost count. Glen said the dynamite jigs by far were the 2.5 Harimitsu EWC and the Yamashita TGK.
Customers Jim and Paul have been whacking the squid while fishing land based down off Mt Martha with several good catches over the past 10 days or so. The boys have also had several squid up to 2kg in weight.
On the Snapper front we have started to hear some good reports of quality fish being taken in the bay with several anglers catching big numbers of 4-8kg snapper off Werribee and Pt Cook.
Matt Cini of Reel Time Charters also reported some good snapper catches over on the other side of the bay with numbers of fish to 6kg.
Westernport
Matt Cini and Matt Boulton of Reel Time Charters have struggled through some awful winter like weather over the past week to produce continued numbers of whiting, with the boys both reporting that they are seeing more quality fish in the 40+cm size.
Matt Boulton also had one lucky customer by the name of Colin Sires manage to land a cracking 50cm whiting while on charter. The boys also said there success is definitely due to their system, which consists of the berley cage on the bottom filled with crushed pilchards and a few pellets and baits of pippie and mussel baited on size 6î circle hooks and a paternoster rig.
With the fishing being so good now is a top time to get out on charter with the boys to get a great feed of whiting and also pick up some great tips on catching them. To book a charter contact Mel @ Reel Time Fishing 0438 302 093 www.reeltimefishing.com.au
Some good reports of squid are starting to filter through from the Flinders to Balnarring area with anglers finding some solid squid following up there whiting while fishing the area.
Out Of Town
Portland
Last Friday Lee and the Adventure Bound Crew headed down there to do some filming with Scott Gray and as much as it killed Lee not to be heading a million miles offshore in search of tuna, instead they stayed in close to shore in search of kingfish.
The end result was 5 rats kings between 2-4kg and a cracker of a king that Scott landed on a Popper, Lee also managed an 8lb salmon on a surface stick bait.

Later in the Afternoon the boys also caught up with Matt Hunt who was out having a social fish with his mates Simon Rinaldi and Daniel. The boys were fishing up the coast off Narrawong where they caught a lovely whiting that was just under a kilo in weight, they also had a School shark of over 20kg along with losing 3 others.

On Saturday there were several albacore brought into Portland along with the odd Bluefin for anglers who stayed out late for the afternoon bite period. Matt Hunt of Matt Hunt Fishing Services landed one tuna of 28kg as well as an albacore. To book a charter with Matt call him on 0409 008 441 or go to www.fishingservices.com.au

Customer Jengis decided not to fish for tuna on Saturday and instead headed out in search of the big Portland whiting, needless to say he wasn’t disappointed with 30 fish landed that were a staggering 44-53cm.
Bermagui
Speaking to Scott Bradley from Bermagui Bait And Tackle he reports that there has been excellent numbers of kingfish to 15kg over the past week at Montague Island and by far the stand out method has been to jig with the most successful jigs being the 200g Samaki Groovers in colours 2 and 5.

The past few days have also produced decent numbers of rat Yellowfin and several mako sharks. Scott also said there is a good patch of water that has moved in along the kink and top of the 12 mile reef and is sure to hold good numbers of marlin.
Port Stephens
Good mate Darren Buttegig has just returned from Port Stephens and to say he had a mind blowing trip is an understatement with the two week trip seeing him and his crew landing 55 marlin on a range of skip and live baits. All this was done out of his 6m trailer boat.

New Harimitsu Colours
New to the extensive range of Harimitsu squid jigs the new AM and MM colours are sure to impress squid fishermen.

Both have purple base colours which are ideal in low light situations with the AM having the green back with glow stripes across it while the MM has the rich violet back and sides with black Yellow and Red stripes.
As with all Harimistu jigs the high carbon prongs are ultra sharp and the nose design gives this jig a zig zag action when worked through the water. At this stage the new colours are only in size 3.0 which sinks at roughly 4 seconds per metre. Check them out in store today!

Mordialloc pier is still producing garfish in the early morning and late afternoon. You must berley and use thin line to your hooks as the water in clear and the days are bright.
The Mordi creek has been fishing great from bream over the last few weeks. Fishing worm or prawn will offer best results but you’ll need to be an early bird and get there at dawn!
A couple of yak fishermen have been doing real well early morning out the front of Mordialloc pier on the pinkie snapper. They have been casting Berkley 3î and 4’ minnows and giving the pinkies a hard time. Some of the fish are up around the 2 kilo mark with plenty around the 30 to 35cm mark.
Mornington has been going off with squid for quite some time now. Jim Takos and his family when down last night off the rocks and got 37 in 2 hours of which he kept a good feed. Jim repots the best jig by far was the Megabass Dart Crew ‘Gold Suji Pink’. He changed jigs 5 times to different colours and nothing work as well as this jig. He even changed to the same brand but it was a combination of action and the colour of this jig that made the difference.
Soft plastic anglers have been having some fun fishing in behind the break wall at Brighton casting 3î & 4î Gulp minnows for flathead. Wading out into the water and casting into the darker depressions is how it’s done and some of the flathead are over 1kg. Good fishing!
Westernport
Matt Cini reports that this week has seen the whiting are still playing the game with great captures. The average size of the fish, have been between 42-49cm. The best spots have been the top of the Middle spit, Tyabb bank, and out the front of Warneet. Best baits have been pippies and mussel and it would be worth giving the berkley 4î worms a go. The whiting have been as shallow as 1m right through to 7m of water. To book a charter with matt contact him on 0438 302 093 or emailwww.reeltimefishing.com.au
Gawaine from Think Big charters reports that the gummies are on the go. Over the last two weeks he has caught 40 gummies with the average size about 22kg with only 3 fish taken for the table. The area to target these beautiful fish is the western arm in the deep water between bouy 5 back towards Cowes. Top baits have fresh salmon, squid, and trevally. Gawaine says that the whiting have been going well in the area of McHaffie reef. The fish have been taken fresh squid and pippies. To book a charter with Gawaine contact him on 0423 696 061 or emailwww.thinkbigcharters.com.au
Yarra River
The upper Yarra is clear, cold and looking good. Spinning and bait drifting with scrub worms is the go and there are plenty of big grasshoppers to grab on the spot to feed to the hungry trout. Redfin are also on the go and you can catch these on lures such as Rapala CD3 and Vibrax spinners.
During the week Adam had the opportunity to fish a farm dam for bass. Second cast with a Bassman spinner bait and he was hooked up to a rampaging bass! The fish ripped line from a tight drag as they do so often after the strike. Gotta love big bass!!
Look out for Adam’s article on stocking dams in the coming months in Vic Fishing Monthly where he points out how to do it.

Out of town
Portland
Matt Hunt is down there at the moment getting ready for the Bluefin season. Matt reports that the krill has arrived so that the tuna should not be far away. He has seen 12 blue whales on his last two trips. He hooked up the other day to a tuna, which was estimated to be around the 100kg mark but it fell off. The break wall is fishing good for short fin pike and salmon at the moment. There has been some nice kingfish working the north shore taken live baits and poppers.
To book a charter with Matt phone 0409 008 441 or visit fishingservices.com.au
Eden
Customer Glen Thackeray is up fishing out off Eden and landed this nice king fish on Tuesday afternoon. His mate hooked and landed 5 more kingies Wednesday morning. The kingies were taken on live slimeys fished near the bottom.

Narooma
Rex and Lynne have taken a short break before the football and fished the Wagonga inlet for some very nice sized whiting and bream. The recent floods in the area have freshened most of the rivers and all rivers are now open to the sea, which will ensure great fishing in the months ahead.
Out of Oz
Fiji
Morne and his crew have arrived home from their trip to Fiji with plenty of stories to tell. They fished around the island of Kadavu catching a variety of species like dog tooth tuna, Yellowfin, gt’s, red bass, and dolpfin fish. The weather was not on their side for the last couple of days but they still caught heaps of fish and had an amazing time. One morning the boys caught and released 15 gt’s and lost 11 all taken on poppers. The boys trolled up some small Yellowfin tuna, one morning landing about 16 or so. The last morning of the trip the boys were lucky to get a bite from a blue marlin, which took a Black Bart mini 1656 flat face in Petro. The line broke after about 50 minutes but the boys got a good look at the fish and still has a ball.!

HOT New Product
Marlin Magic ‘The Pear’. This is one awesome lure. It looks like a pear but its performance is far from pear shaped!! This is classic ‘aggressive’ swim action lure head that is so enticing and so manic in the water almost every fish that sees it, has to have it! This will be one of this seasons ‘go to’ tuna lures for sure.
The swim action is tight after breathing from the surface with a pin style bubble trail and as the air starts to run out, the lures back end starts to snake out of control till it cant take it anymore and back up for another breath. That’s gold!! Limited stocks available so get in quick!
