Weekly News & Fishing Report
2nd September 2010

After another week of intense rain it was great to see a few breaks in the weather, which lasted just long enough to give us a glimpse of some great Spring weather. Needless to say it also got anglers on the water and plenty of fish getting caught.

Adventure Bound can be seen for the next three weeks on Saturdays at 6pm before moving to Thursday nights as of the 30th September.
Saturday 11th September
Next week Lee and Andrew tackle some Winter snapper in Port Phillip Bay on light gear to prove to anglers that snapper season doesn't just run from October to Christmas each year.
Port Phillip Bay
Good mates Darren and "Hightower" took one of their mates out fishing on Saturday morning out off Port Arlington. The boys were out to give the squid a bit of a touch up. They managed to catch their bag of squid using Harimitsu 2.5 and 3.0 in colours BC, EOR, and RR. The squid ranged in size from small to up around one kilo.

Saturday morning Beaumaris Motor Yacht Squadron member Steve Church fished out in 16m of water off Mordialloc and had a great session landing 4 snapper 2x 2.5kg and two others around the 5kg mark.
Gun angler and new deckie for Matt Cini, Alex Matic couldn’t wait for a charter to get out on the water so headed out into18m of water off Carrum on Saturday morning and had a great session landing plenty of snapper to a whopping 7.6kg.
Good customer Sam called in on Saturday to spool some reels for the upcoming season, he then put the gear to good use on Sunday where he and his mate bagged out on thumper whiting off Queenscliff. Sam said the whiting were all in the 40-45cm size range, with best baits being fresh squid and pippies.
Sunday saw several kayak anglers getting stuck into solid pinkies around the kilo mark, with one angler also getting one fish of 5kg. They were all taken in the Ricketts Point and Parkdale Pinnacles area with best results coming on Gulp 5" jerkshads.
On Tuesday Lee headed out on the water with Rach and Mia to soak up some of the great weather that managed to find its’ way to Melbourne for the day. Working the reef edge in Beaumaris bay and over at the Parkdale Pinnacles they managed a feed of tasty calamari with the best jig being the Harimitsu 2.5EMR Mia thought the squid were just ace, so much so that she tried to hug them to death.

Ringwood Lake
Staff member Adam and daughter Madison fished Ringwood Lake on Sunday to catch this nice carp. Madison was keen to berley up the carp and ducks with bread while eating most of it until dad came through with an unweighted knob of bread and hooked this 3.5kg model.
The fish was released much to Adams disgust because of the 20 or so children looking on blowing it kisses and calling it Mr Fish! Next time the fish mightn't be so lucky!!

Westernport
Good mate Ron "Rock Cod" Gysberts headed out off Corinella in search of an early season snapper and wasn’t disappointed when he landed 6 gummies ranging 3-5kg, he kept two for a feed and said the water looked like a cup of hot chocolate up off Tenby Point, needless to say it didn’t worry the gummies as that was where he caught them.
Squid fanatic Jim Takos fished Flinders Pier on Monday morning to land 6 lovely squid up to about 1.5kg in weight, he did say that one angler had 3 monster squid which he got on fresh mullet, while several other anglers had between 1-6 squid with most being taken on jigs rather than baits.

Matt from FACEBOOK reported that he fished Corinella and got 4 small gummies, all released, and a big 7 gill shark on a bonito fillet, he got this pic and then release the shark.

Out of Town
West Coast
The west coast rivers are still pumping water but Scott Gray let us know that through the week he has been catching some lovely fish in the Hopkins, with one of his mates landing a monster 9lb fish below the falls.
Although the trout season opens this weekend with the expected big rainfalls the fivers will once again become raging torrents that may make the fishing a bit tough, however within a week or two after the rain the trout should go a bit silly and eat everything.
Bermagui
Scott Bradley from Bermagui Bait and Tackle called during the week to let us know that he and his mates have been getting into a bunch of great fish while bottom bouncing the 12 mile reef, every trip has been producing snapper with huge flathead, scarlet sea perch and tassie trumpeter mixed in for good measure.
Hot Product
Yamashita Live Series Squid Jigs

Just when you thought jigs couldn’t get any better the boys from Yamashita have done it again with a whole new style of jig that relies on thermal heat to get more bites. This works on the squid’s ability to hunt prey via the heat it generates.
With this in mind Yamashita have developed a new cloth on the jigs which holds heat making the jig anywhere from .5-1 degree warmer than the surrounding water.
They come in a range of great colours and all the popular sizes.
